Purpose
This is an introductory qualification that recognises the skills and knowledge required for
people working or intending to work in the amenity turf industry. The aim of the certificate
is to provide recognition of knowledge in the maintenance of amenity turf areas and
practical application of maintenance tools and equipment to complete the tasks involved.
The compulsory set recognises attainment of skills in
 use of amenity turf maintenance tools and small equipment
 mowing specific to amenity turf
 knowledge of weeds, pests, diseases, and disorders specific to amenity turf
 interpersonal communication skills.
The electives recognise attainment of skills and knowledge which supplement the
compulsory skill set and enable people to enhance their ability to undertake the diverse
range of work covered by the amenity turf maintenance industry.
Depending on the standards chosen from the elective section, this qualification may
provide credits towards the National Certificate in Horticulture (Level 4) (Amenity
Horticulture strand) [Ref: 1014] or the National Certificate in Sports Turf Management
(Level 4) [Ref: 0203].
This qualification is designed for people involved in the care and/or maintenance of
amenity turf areas which are not intended for sports use. People involved in the care
and/or maintenance of sports turf areas are recommended to undertake sports turf
qualifications, including the National Certificate in Sports Turf (Introduction to Turf Care)
(Level 3) [Ref: 0700] and/or the National Certificate in Sports Turf Management (Level 4)
[Ref: 0203].

Requirements for Award of Qualification
Award of NQF Qualifications
Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.
Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the
purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided in section 7 of the New Zealand
Qualifications Authority (NZQA) Rules and Procedures publications available at
http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/acrp/index.html.
Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions
and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet
qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.
