NZQF NQ Ref Version 0968 Page 1 of 4 2 National Certificate in Mediation (Interpersonal Communications) (Level 4) Level 4 Credits 48 Purpose This entry level certificate is designed to recognise the ability of the competent learner or junior mediator. However, it can also provide a means of recognising current competency. The compulsory recognises the underpinning mediation knowledge, and the interpersonal communication skills necessary for people to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using mediation to clarify issues and resolve disputes within state sector organisations. The range of standards forming the elective allows for the design of a qualification package that meets the needs of a particular organisation or mediation context. This qualification leads on to the National Certificate in Mediation (Level 5) [Ref: 0470]. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (ID). Changes to structure and content Qualification credit value increased from 47 to 48. The structure was amended to clarify the requirements for award. The overarching rule was removed. The Balance was renamed Elective, and now specifies a minimum of 26 credits at Level 4 or above. Standard 9694 was substituted for standard 9706. The elective section was updated to reflect changes made to the Business field classifications. For detailed information see Review Summaries on the NZQA website. This qualification contains a standard that has been substituted for an earlier standard. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standard are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the substituted standard – see table below. Credit for Exempt from 9706 9694 This qualification contains a classification that replaces an earlier classification. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for standards in the expired classification may continue to use those credits to meet the qualification requirements – see table below.
