Transition Arrangements
This qualification has been reviewed and replaced by the New Zealand Certificate in
Textile Manufacturing (Level 4) with an optional strand in Technical Leadership [Ref:
2978].
The last date for entry into programmes leading to this qualification is 31 December 2016.
Elective A in version 3 of this qualification contains an expiring classification Business >
Management. This classification is expiring without replacement and has been removed
from version 4 of this qualification.
It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition
arrangements. However, anyone who feels that they have been disadvantaged may
appeal to Competenz at the address below. Appeals will be considered on a case by case
basis.

Purpose
This is a national certificate for people working in the carpet manufacturing industry.
The qualification builds on the National Certificate in Carpet Manufacture (Carpet
Tufting) (Level 3) [Ref: 0281] is a means of recognising skills and knowledge that
people have achieved in carpet inspection and grading. People who have achieved
this qualification have the skills and knowledge necessary to inspect and mend
unbacked tufted carpet, identify faults and grade finished carpet, and roll and wrap
carpet. They can also perform quality tests on backed and finished tufted carpet
and have skills in communications and management to support operating in their
work environment.

regulations for the qualification
2.1
entry information for programmes of education and training assessed
against the unit standards in the qualification
Open. There are no prerequisite requirements for entry to the qualification.
However, because of the need for work place training in the operation of
industry specific equipment, it is recommended that only people employed in
a textile processing plant with the equipment required enrol on a programme
leading to this qualification.
It is also recommended that people enrolling on a programme leading to this
qualification have prior experience of patterned graphics tufting and mending.
Because of the need for good colour vision, it is recommended that people
entering the qualification have passed an Ishihara Colour Test, or equivalent.

recognition of prior learning
Prior learning will be recognised at both unit standard and qualification level.

This qualification will be awarded to people who have met the requirements
of the compulsory and elective sections.

5.1

National Qualifications Framework Transition
Version 3
This qualification was updated and issued as version 3 in December 2001 to
include a wider and more flexible range of skills in management and
interpersonal communications and to remove components that are not
critical to the overall outcome of the qualification.
Changes to structure and content:
 unit standards 497, 3482, 8489, 8492, and 9677 have been removed
from the compulsory section of the qualification but 9677 can be used
towards meeting the elective requirement of this version;
 another elective section has been added to the qualification to require
trainees to demonstrate a wider range of skills in the management and
interpersonal skills areas;
 the overall credit total has increased from 83 to 87;
 a field name and names of standard setting bodies have been updated.
People currently enrolled in programmes leading to the award of earlier
versions of this qualification may either complete those versions of the
qualification or transfer to this version. The last date for award of previous
versions is 31 December 2003.

Any version of a unit standard contained within this qualification which retains
its original unit standard identification number will continue to meet the
requirements of this qualification.

This qualification was updated and issued as version 2 in January 1999 to
reflect the review of communication skills unit standards.
