Purpose
This unit standard has been designed to be achieved in a building,
construction and allied trades skills (BCATS) programme.

training organisations and trade or professional associations.

Element 1
Demonstrate knowledge of the flooring industry within a BCATS environment.
Performance criteria
1.1
Major sectors of the flooring industry are identified, and described in terms of
the scope of work undertaken by a flooring installer.
Range
1.2
Common work processes undertaken by flooring installers are identified and
described, and reasons for the processes are explained.
Range
1.3
remove existing floor coverings, evaluate and prepare substrates,
quantify flooring products, apply adhesive systems, install flooring
products.
Potential clients of a flooring installer are identified and the nature of the
relationship is described.

1.4
carpet and vinyl installation, floorsanding, timber flooring

Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
