Definition
Critical points – points in a process or in equipment where failure to function correctly
can lead to adverse effects which may affect the treatment process or other
processes in the treatment plant;
Organisational procedures – instructions to staff, and procedures which are
documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace. These
requirements include but are not limited to – site specific requirements,
manufacturers’ specifications, product quality specifications, and legislative or
regulatory requirements.
Wastewater includes stormwater and sewage systems.

Element 1
Describe preventive maintenance systems relevant to wastewater treatment.
Performance criteria
1.1
Systems are described in terms of those used to programme and record
maintenance procedures and work completed.
Range

Systems are described in terms of their links to maintenance manuals and other
records and drawings in accordance with organisational procedures.
1.3
Information retained from inspection and field tests is assessed in terms of
organisational procedures for quality.
1.4
Unplanned and planned maintenance work is described in terms of
organisational procedures.
Range
1.5
Systems procedures to equalise run time are identified and described in terms
of plant item duties and organisational procedures.

1.6
evidence of one unplanned and one planned piece of maintenance
work is required.

Relate the concept of critical points to processes requiring maintenance, and identify
preventive actions, and corrective actions for each hazard.
Performance criteria
3.1
Critical points to processes requiring maintenance are described in terms of
their consequential impacts on wastewater treatment.
3.2
The preventive and corrective actions for potential problems or events related to
each hazard are identified in wastewater treatment.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
