People credited with this unit standard are able to: – evaluate existing sites for minor installations of telecommunications equipment; and – prepare existing sites for minor installations of telecommunications equipment. Specifications – any or all of: detailed job specifications, drawings, and instructions; manufacturers’ specifications and instructions; and industry codes of practice relating to the type of telecommunications equipment and systems to be installed. Telecommunications equipment – customer premise equipment, minor extensions to existing telecommunications systems already on-site. 4 Range a The phrase in accordance with current industry practice is implicit in all performance criteria in this unit standard. b Customers may be internal or external to the organisation and may include end users and clients. c Sites include established customer premises, residential or small business properties, telecommunications offices or work stations. Evidence is required from at least three sites, of which one must involve a building with more than one floor. d Design specifications regarding the installation are to be available during the site evaluation and preparation phase. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Evaluate existing sites for minor installations of telecommunications equipment. Performance criteria 1.1 Physical attributes of sites are evaluated in terms of the current and planned operational requirements of the equipment specification and purpose, and customer expectations. Range 1.2 Location selected for installation is evaluated in terms of security and safety. Range 1.3 typical physical attributes – ambient temperature, physical space; typical operational requirements – weather, day and/or night, vehicular, legal right of access, external services supporting operational performance; typical customer expectations – what, where, how, by when; information detailed in customer job specification and equipment specifications. physical security – equipment, personnel, facilities. Location and layout options are developed and agreed with the customer. Performance criteria 2.1 Sites are made accessible, available, and ready for installation of equipment and systems. 2.2 Preparation confirms that developed site plans show the location of equipment, plant, machinery, structures, and building services. 2.3 Site preparation and construction complies with security and safety plans and safety regulations. 2.4 Regular customer reporting is established and maintained throughout site preparation phase. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
