People credited with this unit standard are able to: describe support materials for planting used in a greenhouse crop; layout the support materials for planting; maintain support materials for planting; remove the support materials for planting; and clean greenhouse support material. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 22181 version 1 Page 2 of 3 3 Support materials for planting in greenhouse production may include but are not limited to – over ground support structures used in cut flower production, bag culture used in orchid and greenhouse vegetable production, tray culture used in cut flower production, or a nutrient film technique/hydroponic system. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Describe support materials for planting used in a greenhouse crop. Performance criteria 1.1 Support materials are described in terms of crop requirements and workplace procedures. 1.2 The use of the support material is described in terms of when it is required in greenhouse production. Element 2 Layout the support materials for planting. Range two or more of the following systems – placement of planter/container bags, structural plant fames, laying out irrigation pipes or microtube, stringing of plants. Performance criteria 2.1 Plant support material is laid out in greenhouse in accordance with workplace procedures so that plants will be supported and irrigated. 2.2 Plant support structures are spaced in accordance with workplace procedures. 2.3 Irrigation lines are all functional with no leaks and/or blockages. 2.4 The plants are supported to keep the stems straight. 2.5 Techniques and management of labour for laying out and removing the plant support structures are implemented in accordance with crop requirements and workplace procedures. Element 3 Maintain support materials for planting. Performance criteria 3.1 The support structures are maintained for the duration of the crop. 3.2 Irrigation systems are checked daily and blockages repaired. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 22181 version 1 Page 3 of 3 3.3 The crop is supported so that its growth is unimpeded and shape of the plant is maintained in accordance with workplace procedures for the crop. 3.4 Adjustments of support material is continued throughout the life of the crop in accordance with workplace procedures. Element 4 Remove the support materials for planting. Performance criteria 4.1 Support materials are removed in accordance with workplace procedures. Element 5 Clean greenhouse support material. Performance criteria 5.1 Greenhouse support material is cleaned in accordance with workplace procedures. Range may include but is not limited to – plant support frames, irrigation pipes, overhead support wires. Please note Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP).
