This unit standard is for people who are employed as supervisors in the meat processing industry and who are required to manage people in a production line environment. Evidence requirements 1.1 Interventions that can be used to control and manage musculoskeletal disorder risk are described in terms of the recommendations detailed in Industry Interventions for Addressing Musculoskeletal Disorders (Strains/Sprains) in New Zealand Meat Processing. Range 1.2 includes but is not limited to – rest breaks, stretching, work pace, task rotation, shift design, work flow management, physical design, training. Barriers to interventions are described in terms of those listed in Industry Interventions for Addressing Musculoskeletal Disorders (Strains/Sprains) in New Zealand Meat Processing. Range includes but is not limited to – financial costs, levels of MSD awareness, resistance to change, training levels, workplace culture, job grades. Outcome 2 Describe the principles behind monitoring MSD risk and managing MSD cases. Evidence requirements This unit standard is Range includes but is not limited to – injury and discomfort reporting, incident investigation, surveys and questionnaires, task expiring assessments for MSD risks. 2.1 The purpose of monitoring MSD risk is described and types of monitoring methods are explained in accordance with organisational requirements. 2.2 Aspects of MSD management are described in accordance with organisational requirements. Range includes but is not limited to – medical assessment, rehabilitation treatment, return to work management, alternative duties options, and vocational reassignment.
