NZQA registered unit standard 26332 version 1 Page 1 of 4 Title Integrate heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems components Level 4 Purpose Credits 30 This unit standard is intended primarily for use in the training of personnel in the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) industry and covers integration of HVAC systems components. People credited with this unit standard are able to: prepare for integration of HVAC systems; integrate HVAC equipment and components; and test and fill systems. Classification Mechanical Engineering > Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Reference Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992. 2 Definitions Air conditioning and ventilation systems include large central air conditioning systems, ducted constant-flow rate and variable-flow rate air conditioning systems, packaged and split air conditioning, heat pumps, supply and extract ventilation systems, fume ventilation, and industrial ventilation systems. Chilled water systems include plain water, brine and glycol systems. Company practice refers to operational procedures put in place by the candidate’s employer. These include site safety procedures, equipment operating procedures, job procedures, quality assurance, and procedures for the purchase, handling and disposal of equipment and components. Hot water heating systems include low, medium and high temperature systems. Industrial liquids may include acids, alkalis, detergents, printing inks, and food products. Industry practice refers to safe and sound practices generally accepted by competent trade persons within the HVAC industry. Integrate means to install components and check details to ensure that they relate correctly to each other to form a functioning system, and that components are installed to conform to system principles for correct operation. Potable hot and cold water systems include commercial, industrial or institutional systems larger than domestic systems. Competenz SSB Code 101571 New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA registered unit standard 26332 version 1 Page 2 of 4 Specifications include technical standards, documented operating and maintenance procedures or instructions for the system, installation drawings, manufacturers’ data, installation instructions, installation programme schedules, material schedules, and site instructions. Steam and condensate systems include systems that use gas, coal, oil, or electricity as fuel sources for the heating system components. Systems for gases include medical gases, LPG, CNG, oxygen, acetylene, compressed air, and natural gas. 3 Assessment of this unit standard will only be completed after commissioning of the system shows no faults with the integration of equipment and components. 4 Range a All evidence must comply with the relevant provisions of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992. b HVAC systems – evidence is required of a hot water heating system, a chilled water system, an air conditioning and ventilation system, and one from – industrial liquids, potable hot and cold water systems, steam and condensate systems, systems for gases. c Evidence may be gathered by the candidate over several work sites and may need to be spread between several time periods. There typically will be jobs where part of the job is completed in conjunction with other HVAC personnel. The evidence relates to the candidates own specific work, not work jointly performed with other team members, except where the other team member is checking or assessing the candidate. 5 This unit standard is one of two designed to cover integration of HVAC systems components, the other being Unit 26328, Integrate heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems components under supervision. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Prepare for integration of HVAC systems. Evidence requirements 1.1 System installation drawings are checked against the work site and confirmed as suiting the site conditions, or modifications are arranged as necessary. 1.2 Equipment and components are procured in accordance with company practice and checked against specifications. 1.3 Integration of system is coordinated with other trades in accordance with company practice. Range Competenz SSB Code 101571 building, water, gas, electricity, plumbing. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA registered unit standard 26332 version 1 Page 3 of 4 Outcome 2 Integrate HVAC equipment and components. Evidence requirements 2.1 Components and equipment are positioned in accordance with specifications and industry practice. 2.2 Installation of equipment and components occurs in the sequence laid down in specifications and in accordance with industry practice. 2.3 Integration of equipment and components complies with specifications and industry practice. Outcome 3 Test and fill systems. Evidence requirements 3.1 Tests are carried out and recorded in accordance with specifications and industry practice. Range 3.2 equipment and component operational tests, system integrity (no leaks) tests. Systems are filled, flushed, water treated or purged where appropriate, in accordance with specifications and industry practice.
