Purpose
This unit standard is for people who work, or intend to work, in
the heating, ventilation and air conditioning sector of the
engineering industry. People credited with this unit standard
are able to: prepare to manufacture duct work; develop and cut
sheets and insulation; and assemble the duct work.

Open, however, it is recommended that people undertaking this
unit standard have already demonstrated competence in metal

Explanatory notes

Work site documents include contracts and any drawings for the duct work to be
manufactured or installed.

installation advantageous.

Quantities of materials requisitioned and received are checked against
inventory.
1.3
Setting out of job is in accordance with work site documents.
Outcome 2
Develop and cut sheets and insulation.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Sheets and insulation are cut to work site documents’ specifications.
2.2
Development and cutting of sheets and insulation are completed without
unplanned cost or waste.
Outcome 3
Assemble the duct work.
Evidence requirements
3.1
Duct work fittings are manufactured and assembled according to work site
documents.
3.2
Air leakage from sealed fittings does not exceed work site documents’
specifications.
3.3
Assembly is completed without unplanned cost or waste.
3.4
Assembly is completed so that installation can be carried out in accordance
work site documents.
3.5
Assembly meets installation programme schedule and requirements.
This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place
before the expiry date set out below.

Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA, or
an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can
report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading
to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
