NZQA registered unit standard 18914 version 3 Page 1 of 3 Title Manufacture a one-off furniture article Level 4 Credits 8 Purpose People credited with this unit standard are able to: produce a cutting list and calculate required materials; manufacture furniture components for a one-off article of furniture; and assemble a one-off article of furniture. Classification Furniture > Furniture Making Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 This unit standard may be assessed against on-job or off-job. However, job specifications, equipment used, and job output must conform to current commercial industry practice. 2 Competence must be demonstrated producing a one-off furniture article from given job specifications. The job specifications may take the form of drawings, written instructions, verbal instructions or a combination of these. 3 Definition Worksite policies and procedures refer to documented policies and to documented or other directions provided to staff. These may include, but are not limited to, ways of managing health and safety, environmental considerations, quality, and production, and must conform to legislation. Examples include standard operating procedures, company health and safety plans, on-site briefings, and supervisor’s instructions. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Produce a cutting list and calculate required materials. Evidence requirements 1.1 Cutting list is written in accordance with the job specifications. Range 1.6 any of – lineal metres and dimensions of solid timber, number and size of panel products. Hardware required for job is calculated in accordance with the job specifications. Outcome 2 Manufacture furniture components for a one-off article of furniture. Evidence requirements 2.1 Components of the article are machined in accordance with the drawing. 2.2 Manufactured components are free from defects. 2.3 Machine and work area are made clean, clear, and safe in accordance with worksite policies and procedures. Outcome 3 Assemble a one-off article of furniture. Evidence requirements 3.1 Components are assembled in accordance with the job specifications.
