Sealers refers to a substance applied as a coating to tiles to protect from staining and moisture. Specifications refers to documented instructions (oral, written, graphic) and may include any of the following: manufacturer’s specifications, recommendations or technical data sheets; material specifications; specifications from a specialist source such as an architect, designer, engineer or a supervisor; site or work specific requirements. Wet area refers to any area exposed to moisture that requires waterproofing, for example bathrooms or laundries. Work site practice refers to the documented procedures specific to a work site which set out the standard and required practices of that work site. 2 Credit for this unit standard indicates compliance with industry practice. Range floor, wall; one installation must be for a wet area. Evidence requirements 1.1 Installation requirements are explained in terms of job requirements and work site practice. Range set-up of work area, surface preparation, primers and adhesives, grouts, sealers, flexible sealants. 1.2 Quantities of tiles and other materials are calculated to meet job requirements. 1.3 Tile set-out requirements are explained in terms of job requirements and work site practice. 1.4 Tile layout procedures are explained in terms of job requirements and work site practice. Range pattern, design. 1.5 Tile installation procedures are explained in terms of job requirements and work site practice. 1.6 Tile cutting methods and techniques are explained in terms of work site practice. Range wet, dry; mechanical, manual. Outcome 2 Cut tiles on site. Range manual cutting – dry; mechanical cutting – wet and dry. Evidence requirements 2.1 Cuts and cutting methods are determined as indicated by the set-out, and to meet tile type and manufacturer’s specifications. 2.2 Tiles are cut in accordance with job specifications and work site practice. Range two floors, two walls; one installation must be for a wet area; floors must include one level and one fall. Evidence requirements 3.1 Tiles are laid and spaced in accordance with job specifications and work site practice. 3.2 Completed job is in accordance with job specifications. Outcome 4 Complete work operations. Evidence requirements 4.1 All operations are safely completed; workplace, tools, plant and equipment are cleaned; and tools, plant and equipment are stored in accordance with work site practice.
