Specifications refers to documented instructions (oral, written, graphic) and may include any of the following: manufacturer’s specifications, recommendations or technical data sheets; material specifications; specifications from a specialist source such as an architect, designer, engineer or a supervisor; site or work specific requirements. Work site practice refers to the documented procedures specific to a work site which set out the standard and required practices of that work site. 2 For all on-site unit standards the practical assessment evidence must be provided in the context of commercial business construction operations, in the workplace, under normal workplace conditions. 3 Credit for this unit standard indicates compliance with industry practice. Evidence requirements 1.1 Grouts, grout additives, and flexible sealants used for floor and wall tiling are identified by types and their uses. 1.2 Grouts, grout additives, and flexible sealants are described in terms of their maintenance requirements once applied. 1.3 Procedures for mixing and applying grouts, grout additives, and flexible sealants are explained in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications and work site practice. Outcome 2 Select grout and grout additive, and flexible sealant for floor and wall tiles on site. Range grouts and grout additives – cement-based, epoxy, acrylic; sealants – urethane, silicon (acetic and neutral cure). Evidence requirements 2.1 Grout, grout additive, and flexible sealant are selected in accordance with job specifications and tile types. Outcome 3 Mix grout and grout additive on site. Range manual, mechanical. Evidence requirements 3.1 Grout and grout additive are mixed in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications. 3.2 Safety procedures specified for type of grout and grout additive are followed in accordance with work site practice. Evidence requirements 4.1 Grout and flexible sealant are applied in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications. 4.2 Safety procedures specified for type of grout and flexible sealant are followed in accordance with work site practice. 4.3 Finished surface is cleaned and polished in accordance with job specifications. Outcome 5 Complete work operations. Evidence requirements 5.1 All operations are safely completed; workplace, tools, plant and equipment are cleaned; and tools, plant and equipment are stored in accordance with work site practice.
