People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare to measure and glaze, and measure and glaze bent glass. These requirements include – company specifications and procedures, work instructions, manufacturer’s specifications, product quality specifications, legislative requirements. 2 Legislation and standards relevant to this unit standard include – the Building Act 2004, Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, New Zealand Standard (NZS) 4223.3:1999 Glazing in buildings – Human impact safety requirements, available at http://www.standards.co.nz. 3 Range This unit standard applies to annealed, toughened and laminated glass and Insulated Glass Units (IGUs). Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Prepare to measure and glaze bent glass. Evidence requirements 1.1 Bent glass is identified and explained in terms of its properties and applications. Range evidence is required of an example for each type of glass in the range. Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation SSB Code 101562 New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA registered unit standard 20504 version 3 Page 2 of 3 1.2 Selection of glazing method to glaze bent glass reflects its suitability for the specifications for the work. 1.3 Selection of glazing materials reflects their suitability for the glazing method selected and/or the specifications for the work. 1.4 Selection of sealants reflects their suitability for the glazing method selected and/or the specifications for the work. 1.5 Material required for making a template is selected in accordance with the glazing method selected and/or the specifications for the work. 1.6 Template is made to meet the job specifications and is in accordance with worksite requirements. 1.7 All necessary equipment, tools, and glazing materials are checked and assembled before work begins in accordance with worksite requirements. 1.8 Frame to be glazed is checked in accordance with worksite requirements. Range checks include – obstruction free, clean, dry, primed and/or sealed, compatibility with glazing material, compatibility with glazing system. Outcome 2 Measure and glaze bent glass. Evidence requirements 2.1 Glazing of bent glass meets the job specifications and worksite requirements. Range requirements include – reassembly of sash, correct blocking, correct orientation, gaskets or wedges are not stretched, wedges are correctly located and meet tightly in corners and cut-off joint, gaskets and tapes are sealed at corners. 2.2 Operations are completed without injury to personnel or damage to product and equipment in accordance with the job specifications and worksite requirements. 2.3 Glass is cleaned and work area is left clear and cleaned in accordance with worksite requirements. 2.4 Customer is advised of any relevant maintenance requirements in accordance with worksite requirements.
