Purpose
This qualification recognises the knowledge and skills required to work safely and
productively in the fellmongery processing sector of the meat processing industry. The
compulsory core underpins all the generic functions within the industry.
The strands of this qualification recognise that many workers specialise in a specific
function or process. The slipe wool grading and pickled pelt grading strands require
specialist skills in these areas. The pickled pelt processing strand requires an operator to
operate specialist equipment.
People who have completed this qualification can continue a career pathway in this sector
and may choose to work towards the National Certificate in Fellmongery Processing
(Knowledge of Slipe Wool and Pickled Pelt Production) [Ref: 0913].
This qualification is designed to be achieved on job.
