Explanatory notes 1 This unit standard is intended for, but not restricted to, workplace assessment. 2 Safety of personnel and plant must be a priority throughout the assessment. If the safety requirements are not met the assessment must stop and the candidate will be assessed as not yet competent. 3 Performance and work practices in relation to the outcomes and evidence requirements must comply with all current legislation, especially the Electricity Act 1992, and any regulations, codes of practice recognised under that statute, Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, the Resource Management Act 1991, and their subsequent amendments, electricity supply industry codes of practice and documented enterprise procedures. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Plan work and prepare electricity network lines machinery for operation in accordance with industry requirements. Evidence requirements 1.1 Type of work and work environment are identified. Range includes but is not limited to – vehicles, equipment, ground condition, underground services, overhead power lines, overhead service lines, trees, buildings, structures, unauthorised people. 1.2 Operational service record of machinery, plant, and equipment is checked. 1.3 Transport of lines machinery, plant, and equipment to work site is arranged. 1.4 Work site hazard management is conducted. Range includes but is not limited to – safe working zone, site risk assessment, bonding, earthing, minimum approach distances (MAD). Outcome 2 Operate electricity network lines machinery, plant, and equipment in accordance with industry requirements. Range includes but not limited to – mobile cranes, truck loader cranes, winches, wire winders, other line only type equipment, spray painting equipment, sand blasters, water blasters, high rail equipment; borer, auger, digger equipment. Range 2.3 Lifting equipment is assessed to ensure it is free of defects in accordance with Approved Code of Practice for Load-Lifting Rigging. 2.4 Loads are slung in accordance with Approved Code of Practice for Load-Lifting Rigging. Outcome 3 Report electricity network lines machinery operation in accordance with industry requirements. Range includes but is not limited to – log book, plant and equipment history, test reports and results, service report. Evidence requirements 3.1 Reported information is complete, concise, and legible. 3.2 Information is recorded in the required format and filed within the scheduled time-frame.
