Classification Electricity Supply > Electricity Supply - Core Skills Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 This unit standard is intended for, but not restricted to, workplace assessment. 2 Safety of personnel and plant must be a priority throughout the assessment. If the safety requirements are not met the assessment must stop. 3 Performance and work practices in relation to the outcomes and evidence requirements must comply with all current legislation, especially the Electricity Act 1992,(and any amendments) and any regulations and codes of practice recognised under that statute; the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 (and any amendments); and the Resource Management Act 1991. Electricity supply industry codes of practice and documented industry procedures include the current version of the Safety Manual – Electricity Industry (SM-EI) (Wellington: Electricity Engineers’ Association), and occupational safety and health codes of practice. Evidence requirements 1.1 Electricity generation is described in terms of purpose, types of generation, and fuel sources. 1.2 Electricity transmission is described in terms of purpose, national grid, and high voltage direct current (HVDC) link. 1.3 Electricity distribution is described in terms of purpose, networks, and substations. 1.4 Electricity retailing is described in terms of purpose, customer services, and metering. 1.5 The New Zealand electricity market is described. Outcome 2 Demonstrate knowledge of the key industry relationships within the electricity supply industry in New Zealand. Evidence requirements 2.1 The relationships between the key industry sectors are described in terms of generation, transmission, distribution, utilisation, retailing, and the electricity market. 2.2 The role of the trainee within the electricity supply industry is described in terms of purpose, accountability, reporting, and expected outcomes.
