Work may be carried out in confined spaces and involve exposure to hazardous chemicals. Definitions Cleaning materials may include but are not limited to – cleaning and sanitising chemicals. Equipment – refers to equipment used to clean and sanitise, depends on specific requirements, and would normally include brooms, cloths, scrapers, brushes, mops and hoses. Preparing equipment for cleaning includes but is not limited to – confirming that all waste materials have been cleared and equipment is correctly locked out, tagged out or isolated as required by operating procedures. Organisational requirements – refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which are documented in memo and/or manual format and are available in the workplace. These requirements include but are not limited to – site specific requirements, company quality management requirements. Legislative requirements in this unit standard include but are not limited to – Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995, Resource Management Act 1991, Animal Products Act 1999, Animal Products (Dairy) Regulations 2005. Evidence requirements 1.1 Cleaning materials, equipment and services are prepared for use in accordance with organisational requirements. 1.2 Confirmation that equipment is safe to clean is secured in accordance with organisational and legislative requirements. Range includes but is not limited to – work procedures and/or permit to work secured. Outcome 2 Collect and dispose of waste in the dairy industry. Evidence requirements 2.1 Waste is sorted and collected in accordance with organisational requirements. 2.2 Product and cleaning waste is deposited in collection area and disposed of in accordance with organisational requirements. Range 2.3 may include but is not limited to – recycled, transferred for rework, further treatment, disposal. Waste is disposed of in accordance with organisational and legislative requirements. Outcome 3 Clean and sanitise equipment manually in the dairy industry. Evidence requirements 3.1 Equipment is cleaned and sanitised to meet organisational requirements. 3.2 Equipment is prepared for operation after cleaning and sanitation in accordance with organisational requirements. 3.3 Cleaning and sanitation documentation is completed and data is recorded in accordance with organisational requirements. Evidence requirements 4.1 Cleaners, sanitisers and related cleaning equipment, and their functions, are identified in terms of the work area. 4.2 Cleaning and sanitation requirements are identified in terms of the work area. Range 4.3 cleaning and sanitation requirements may include but are not limited to – safe handling and storage of cleaners and sanitisers used, different levels of cleaning requirements depending on the reason for cleaning, use of personal protective equipment, equipment settings required for cleaning and operating respectively, inspection points, liaison with related work areas, recording and reporting. Safety issues are identified in terms of cleaning and sanitation. safety issues may include but are not limited to – regulatory requirements as they affect immediate responsibilities for cleaning and sanitation, environmental consequences of incorrect waste disposal, location of material safety data (MSD) sheets.
