People credited with this standard are able to: supervise cleaning of buildings; maintain security for the facility; operate waste management system; and operate programme of building maintenance and repairs. Classification Cleaning and Caretaking > Caretaking Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Competence demonstrated during assessment against this standard must comply with the requirements of: Employment Relations Act 2000; Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996; Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992; Resource Management Act 1991; Smoke-free Environments Act 1990; Health and Safety Code of Practice for Schools, Ministry of Education, 2005. 2 Equipment and cleaning agents must be used in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. 3 Definition Industry best practice refers to enterprise or establishment or facility requirements, practices, policy, procedures, methods and protocols which are in accordance with applicable legislation, regulations and New Zealand Standards. Evidence requirements 1.1 Cleaning supplies and equipment are maintained within budget and in sufficient quantities to meet cleaning requirements. 1.2 Cleaning tasks are supervised in accordance with facility schedules or duty lists. 1.3 Emergency cleaning duties are performed when required. Outcome 2 Maintain security for the facility. Evidence requirements 2.1 Buildings are opened when required in accordance with industry best practice. 2.2 Buildings are locked when required in accordance with industry best practice. 2.3 Services to buildings and rooms not in use are maintained in accordance with industry best practice. Range 2.4 may include – power, water, telephone. Alarm systems are operated in accordance with industry best practice. Outcome 3 Operate waste management system. Evidence requirements 3.1 Rubbish and waste are collected from all locations daily in accordance with facility requirements. 3.2 Rubbish and waste collection point is maintained in a clean and hygienic condition in accordance with facility requirements. 3.3 Rubbish and waste is removed from the premises by regularly scheduled collections in accordance with facility requirements. Outcome 4 Operate programme of building maintenance and repairs.
