Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to: establish
and maintain a sterile area at an airport, recognise and report a
breach, and complete required documentation.

1
Definitions
Sterile area refers to an area where International and/or Domestic passengers and
crew subject to screening are prevented from having access to unauthorised articles
or contact with unscreened persons; and areas for the separation of arriving
passengers and crew from departing passengers and crew during deplaning to
prevent arriving, transit, and transfer passengers and crew having contact with any
person who has been subject to screening.
The term airport refers to aerodrome as per Civil Aviation Rules.

Reference to enterprise procedures means that all activities must comply with the
requirements contained in the current airport exposition, current airport company
manuals and procedures, where applicable, and any relevant legislative and/or
regulatory requirements, which may include but are not limited to: Civil Aviation Act
1990, relevant Civil Aviation Rules, Aviation Crimes Act 1972, Aviation Security
Services Policies and Procedures, New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) Policy.

Outcome 1
Establish and maintain a sterile area at an airport.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Sterile areas are established as required in accordance with enterprise
procedures.
1.2
Sterile areas are maintained in accordance with enterprise procedures.
1.3
Sterile areas are re-established following a breach, evacuation or equipment
failure as required in accordance with enterprise procedures.

Outcome 2
Recognise and report a breach.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Breaches or potential breaches of sterile areas are recognised in accordance
with enterprise procedures.
2.2
Breaches or potential breaches are reported to designated personnel in
accordance with enterprise procedures.
2.3
Information about breaches or potential breaches is collected in accordance
with enterprise procedures.
2.4
The nature of breaches or potential breaches is determined in accordance with
enterprise procedures.
2.5
Appropriate action is taken in the event of a breach in accordance with
enterprise procedures.
Outcome 3
Complete required documentation.
Evidence requirements
3.1
Record of actions taken to establish and/or re-establish a sterile area are
completed in accordance with enterprise procedures.
3.2
Records of a breach, potential breach, evacuation or equipment failure in a
sterile area are completed in accordance with enterprise procedures.
3.3
Written reports of a breach, potential breach, evacuation or equipment failure
and related action to re-establish a sterile area are completed and referred to
designated personnel in accordance with enterprise procedures.

Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA, or
an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can
report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading
to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
Requirements for consent to assess and an outline of the moderation system that applies
to this standard are outlined in the Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR). The
CMR also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing
to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors
and assessors, and special resource requirements.
