Apply management procedures to a small business in the joinery industry

This unit standard is for experienced people who work in a joinery workshop in a management position.
People credited with this unit standard are able to, for a joinery business: establish a work programme; maintain a scheduled work programme; maintain office procedures; and complete routine documentation.

Explanatory notes
1 All workplace practices must comply with current legislation, codes of practice, and documented site safety procedures for personal, product, and worksite safety.
2 Legislation and regulations relevant to this unit standard include but are not limited to
– Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Health and Safety in Employment
Regulations 1995.
3 For assessment purposes, one completed job or tender to be reviewed.
Outcome 1
Establish a work programme for a joinery business.
Evidence requirements
1.1 Tenders are submitted by the closing dates advertised in accordance with workplace practice.
1.2 Tenders are accepted, contracts are signed, and the work programme is developed in accordance with workplace practice.
Outcome 2
Maintain a scheduled work programme for a joinery business.

Evidence requirements
2.1 The labour force is organised to keep the contract on schedule in accordance with workplace practice.
2.2 Materials are available on-site when required in accordance with workplace practice.

2.3 Equipment is available to complete the work in accordance with workplace practice.
2.4 Sub-trades are programmed and their work is completed to keep the contract on schedule in accordance with workplace practice.

Maintain office procedures for a joinery business.
Evidence requirements
3.1 Accounts payable are settled by the due date in accordance with workplace practice.
3.2 Payments due are received and processed in accordance with workplace practice.
3.3 Wage and salary procedures are completed in accordance with workplace practice.
3.4 Compulsory returns are completed in accordance with workplace practice.
3.5 Records are available for accountant and auditor in accordance with workplace practice.

Complete routine documentation for a joinery business.
