Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare and
deliver a spoken presentation in Vagahau Niue on a familiar
topic to a known audience.

Definitions
Vagahau Niue refers to the Niue language. This unit standard involves both written
and spoken Vagahau Niue;
Spoken presentation could mean describing an activity, explaining how to do
something, relating an experience, talking of future goals and plans;
Audience refers to three or more persons;
Familiar refers to topics and settings that are within the learner’s personal
experience.

Evidence is required from one presentation of a minimum length of two minutes.
The presentation may involve the use of notes and/or visual aids used as prompts.

Language used must in Vagahau Niue and may be spoken with village-based
dialectal differences and intonation.

Endorsement of village language variation may be conducted by pulotu, village or
community appointed experts.
5
Achievement of the evidence requirements allows for hesitation, or minor errors in
grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and intonation.

Evidence requirements
2.1
The speech is well-structured, and includes the use of protocols suited to
context and audience.
2.2
The information conveyed is consistent with the topic.
2.3
A variety of vocabulary and language structures is used in the presentation in
accordance with the context and situation.
2.4
The presenter’s understanding of the material being delivered is confirmed by
spoken Vagahau Niue responses to at least two questions asked in Vagahau
Niue.
