Description Cargill's Biotechnology Research and Development Group (Bio R&D) develops new products and improved processes for the food, feed, and industrial segments of Cargill. The Bio R&D group is a global R&D team that enables Cargill to fully benefit from advances in enzyme and microbial biotechnology. The Minneapolis, MN based- Bio R&D group has a primary focus on bioprocess development, particularly fermentation and enzymatic processes, and collaborates with other Cargill technical groups and businesses worldwide on opportunities in: product development, bioprocess development and problem solving, and novel processes as an engine for future growth. The Bio R&D is hiring a Research Biotechnologist who will be responsible for supporting the fermentation development and characterization of genetically engineered microbial strains within a broad range of applications. The Research Biotechnologist will complete fermentation development and strain evaluations with support of advanced analytical tools and have further access to advanced biochemical and molecular biology tools. The incumbent will be expected to design, execute, interpret, and disseminate data associated with the described work. Principal Accountabilities: 75% - Plan, design, and execute fermentation related experimental plans in support of fermentation development and physiological characterization of natural or genetically engineered microbial strains within a cross-functional team structure. 10% - Documentation of experimental data, organization of results into technical reports, and presentation of findings to stakeholders. 10% - Contribute to project plans, timelines, and technical scope of new and existing projects. 5% - Stay current with scientific literature, scientific community, and nurture collaboration across the global Bio R&D team. Qualifications Required: M.S. in Microbiology, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or related discipline or B.S. in aforementioned disciplines with 3+ years of work experience Demonstrated knowledge of microbial process development and microbial physiology Ability to independently design and execute experiments and interpret results Excellent written and oral communication skills Demonstrated capability to actively participate in a multidisciplinary and geographically diverse team Demonstrated commitment to safety in the job environment Support and nurture collaboration in a multifunctional team Ability to travel up to 20% Desired: Experience in developing and improving microbial fermentation processes Experience in the physiological characterization of microbial organisms using bench-scale bioreactors Experience with fermentation piloting, scale-up, and technology transfer to industrial settings Cargill is an EEO/AA employer.
