Performance criteria 1.1 The New Zealand beekeeping industry is described in terms of its history leading to the current industry structure and function. 1.2 The New Zealand beekeeping industry is described in terms of its demographic features. Range 1.3 The New Zealand beekeeping industry is described in terms of its sector structure and markets. Range 1.4 number of beekeepers, apiaries, and hives; location of beekeepers; types of beekeeping enterprise. honey producers, pollinators, queen bee rearers, honey packers, marketers. The New Zealand beekeeping industry is described in terms of its relationship with associated support services. Range support services – Government advisers, National Beekeepers Association of NZ (Inc) (NBA), bee researchers, bee equipment suppliers, bee equipment manufacturers, honey and wax buyers. Element 2 Demonstrate knowledge of the career and training opportunities relevant to the New Zealand beekeeping industry. Performance criteria 2.1 The description outlines major career paths in the New Zealand beekeeping industry. Range 2.2 career paths – beekeeper’s assistant, beekeeper field and plant supervisor (leading hand), queen bee rearer, owner/operator, business director, equipment supplier, beekeeping tutor, scientist, industry advisor, honey packers and buyers. Qualifications are described in terms of training pathways in the beekeeping industry. Range name, course composition, training providers; evidence is required for at least two qualifications. Performance criteria 3.1 Sources of information are identified which are available and appropriate to beekeeping enterprises. Range 3.2 Major information sources are described in terms of type and credibility. Range 3.3 evidence is required for at least five major sources. Methods of obtaining information from major information sources are described in terms of the costs. Range 3.4 includes but is not limited to – NBA library, internet web sites, NZ Beekeeper’s Journal, training providers, International Bee Research Association (IBRA), Government researchers and advisors, overseas journals. evidence is required for at least five major sources. The research and technology transfer and/or training roles of organisations are described in terms of the way in which the beekeeper may benefit. Range National Beekeeper’s Association of NZ (Inc), Federated Farmers (NZ Bee Industry Group), Government researchers and advisors, training providers, Primary Industry Training Organisation. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP).
