Purpose
This unit standard is for people in the powerboat repair
industry. People credited with this unit standard are able to:
demonstrate knowledge of boat trailer servicing requirements;
maintain and repair boat trailer components; and inspect and
advise on boat trailer performance.

make automotive components, or demonstrate equivalent

Explanatory notes

The following legislation, regulations, standards, and their amendments are required
to be consulted and followed where applicable:

– Traffic Regulations, 1976
– Warrant of Fitness Inspection Guide, Motor Trade Association
– NZ Standard 5232.

Reference to suitable tools and equipment means industry approved tools and
equipment that are recognised within the industry as being the most suited to
complete the task to a professional and competent manner with due regard to safe
working practices.

Because of the particular nature of this unit standard, it is essential that the practical
assessment evidence is obtained from commercial jobs in the workplace under
normal workplace conditions.

Evidence requirements
2.1
Safe working practices are observed throughout the task.

Suitable tools and equipment are selected and used to enable the trailer repairs
to be carried out.
2.3
Customer requirements are determined and noted before work is carried out.
2.4
Trailer components are inspected to ensure that the trailer complies with the
Traffic Regulations, and faults are recorded on a check form for this purpose.

Servicing work is carried out according to customer’s requirements.

A report on boat trailer performance is given to the supervisor based on an
inspection.
