To support the Head of Branch Strategy and London to work with
London branches and strategic plans. The role will be combination of
varied administrative, project and coordination duties to support
delivery within the department.
Nature and scope
CIPD is the professional body for those involved in people management and development.
CIPD is incorporated by Royal Charter and is a registered charity. CIPD currently has many
branches and groups (geographical and special interest groups) throughout the UK and
Ireland that are run by volunteer branch officers and committee members.
Branches provide a key channel for member and potential member engagement at a local or
country level. They support members by informing them about our latest research and
other CIPD services. They also support members with their career development, and often
develop and maintain good relations with local centres offering CIPD programmes. An
essential component of their work is to provide low-cost CPD by hosting local events and
activities which enable local practitioners to network and learn from each other. Our
branches act as advocates for the CIPD locally in support of our National and International
member objectives.
Branches also have a constitutional role. Each branch has a number of constitutional and
none constitutional roles that enable the branch to fulfil its corporate and local
responsibilities in support of members and potential members. The branch also elects a
representative to Council, the Institute’s advisory body. Additionally, Council elects the
members of the Board (except honorary officers elected at AGM). The Board is the primary
governance body of the Institute and exercises all but a few powers reserved to Council.
This role’s responsibilities are wide ranging and varied, acting as a key support to our
Regional Head of London and on an ongoing review of our branch activity and structure to
ensure that they are fit for purpose to the future. The role is an excellent opportunity to be
exposed to a sizable change programme and have exposure to a number of senior
stakeholders whilst also helping ensure that we remain on track and making progress against
objectives. It is an excellent opportunity to improve and prove a wide range of skills and
enhance commercial understanding. The role requires an unusual mix of administration,
thinking and judgment and will require working outside of normal office hours, with
occasional work on weekends.
