Job Purpose
Design, develop and deliver instructional material for CIPD digital
products and e-learning content. Enable the CIPD to continue to offer
market leading and innovative digital output.
Key accountabilities
1
Uses instructional design and pedagogical knowledge to drive the development of new
and existing e-learning content. Builds creative and innovative e-learning
activities/materials, in order to bring a truly engaging learning experience to our
students.
2
Creates a variety of rich media contents for use across a range of CIPD channels,
including our corporate website, virtual learning environment (VLE), intranet and social
media channels. Aimed at many different external and internal user groups, these
pieces will broaden our reach and position us firmly as innovators of the profession.

Advise on the best use of web technologies to inform the development of rich media
and pedagogical content to ensure the right tool/platform is used for each product.

Understands online user experience best practice and puts that knowledge into practice
in order to deliver the best experience for all products.

Assists in the creation of CIPD branded templates for use in various rich media outputs
including interactive presentations and digital/e-learning modules.

Contributes to the Digital and Learning Technologies strategy, enabling the CIPD to offer
leading edge online products and services.

Keeps up-to-date with digital and e-learning industries, to ensure future business
outputs remain competitive.

Provides technical and troubleshooting support to the VLE, answering and resolving
queries, making sure that customer queries/platform issues are resolved according to
service level targets.

Knowledge, qualifications and experience
Of graduate calibre, the post holder will have solid instructional design experience. They
must be able to design, develop and build creative and innovative digital/e-learning
materials.
The candidate must have strong pedagogical knowledge of putting e-learning and blended
learning design into practice. Working with SMEs, they’ll be expected to provide advice on
the ongoing development of our e-learning offer and be able to deliver engaging learning
activities.
The following are essential for the jobholder:







Instructional design capabilities
Strong pedagogical knowledge
Curriculum and course development
Multimedia authoring tools e.g. Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, etc.
Administrative experience of Moodle (or other VLE)
Understanding and commitment to providing the best online user experience
Ability to clearly and succinctly communicate technical/pedagogical concepts using the
most appropriate method.
The following are desirable for the jobholder:






Mahara or other e-portfolio tool
Technical and process capabilities
Adobe Creative Suite
Technical competence in HTML
Sound editing software, such as Audacity
Familiarity with data protection/copyright issues.
