Instructional techniques and developments in technical reading and reading apprenticeship can help students improve their reading and comprehension skills. S 10 Non-native and basic skills students enrolled in Career Technical classes need help with specific workplace writing skills, e.g. writing reports, giving written instructions, writing memos and letters. Punctuation, spelling, and grammar, as well as using correct vocabulary are also skills needed by students. S 10 Students enrolled in Career Technical Education at Laney College need help in reading and writing using textbooks, materials, and assignments that are useful to them in their technical field of choice. Reading and writing necessary and vital for technicians needs to be taught from texts that are technical such as textbooks from the CTE course, safety manuals, schematics, and tests. Students need to learn how to gather information from charts and technical documents and make use of it in the classroom and in the field. This course will teach students reading skills particular to technical documents as well as writing skills necessary for technicians.
