NZQA registered unit standard 7243 version 5 Page 1 of 3 Title Demonstrate knowledge of aircraft mechanical system maintenance practices Level 4 Purpose Credits 15 This is a knowledge-based unit standard for people pursuing unit standards in the Mechanical Maintenance and Mechanical Repair and Overhaul domains. People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of aircraft mechanical systems and aircraft mechanical system maintenance practices. Classification Aeronautical Engineering > Aircraft Mechanical Maintenance Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Range systems may include – air-conditioning and pressurisation, fire detection and protection, flight control, fuel storage and distribution, hydraulic, ice and rain protection, landing gear, pneumatic, water and waste, wheel and brake. 2 Maintenance tasks must meet the standards required by the aircraft or equipment manufacturer. 3 Standard practices referred to are those in the aviation industry, examples being Great Britain – Civil Aviation Authority, CAP 562: Civil Aircraft Airworthiness Information and Procedures (CAAIP) (London: TSO) and United States – Federal Aviation Administration, Advisory Circular 43.13, Acceptable Methods, Techniques, and Practices – Aircraft Inspection and Repair (US Department of Transportation). 4 The scope of the systems that this standard relates to is described in the applicable chapters of ATA iSpec 2200. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of aircraft mechanical systems. Evidence requirements 1.1 Mechanical systems are described in terms of their purpose, function, operating principles and major components. Outcome 2 Demonstrate knowledge of aircraft mechanical system maintenance practices. Evidence requirements 2.1 Maintenance of mechanical systems is described in terms of standard industry practices. Range 2.2 inspection, component change, adjustment, testing, servicing. Safety precautions for mechanical system maintenance activities are described in terms of standard industry practices.
