purpose:
This unit standard is for people who assist pilots when
applying agrichemicals, liquid fertilisers, or suspension
fertilisers, by aircraft.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: prepare
agrichemicals and equipment for aerial application; and
manage an aerial agrichemical application loading site.

Definitions
agrichemical – any substance, whether inorganic or
organic, man-made or naturally occurring, modified or
in its original state, that is used in any agriculture,
horticulture or related activity, to eradicate, modify or
control flora and fauna. For the purposes of aerial
agrichemical application, it includes liquid fertilisers,
and suspension fertilisers;
decontamination – the use of methods based on
chemically induced flocculation to settle suspended
solids followed by filtration. For more information refer
to NZS 8409:2004;
cleaning refers to the containers used to hold the
agrichemicals. The most common form of cleaning is
triple rinsing. For more information refer to NZS
8409:2004;
organisational procedures – verbal or written
instructions to staff on procedures for preparation and
handling of agrichemicals, and loading site security.

1.1
Personal protective equipment is selected according to requirements, and fitted,
prepared and used in accordance with NZS 8409:2004, and legislation.
1.2
Agrichemical application and loading equipment is prepared in accordance with
NZS 8409:2004, operational requirements, and manufacturer’s specifications.
Range:
includes but is not limited to – clean, leak free, adequate droplet
size.

1.3
Quantities of agrichemicals are prepared and handled on-site in accordance
with NZS 8409:2004, and organisational procedures.
Range:
volume, rate, weight, flowability, capability, mixing, order of mixing,
measurement, containment.
1.4
Surplus aerial agrichemical mix is disposed of in accordance with NZS
8409:2004.
1.5
Equipment associated with agrichemical application is decontaminated, cleaned
and stored, or disposed of, in accordance with NZS 8409:2004.

Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority or a delegated interinstitutional body before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards
or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before
they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
