THE POSITION The Peralta Colleges, in collaboration with the Alameda, Berkeley, Oakland and Piedmont Adult Schools in the Northern Alameda Consortium for Adult Education, created a new position at each campus with Adult Education Block Grant funds from the State. This position will serve in a role as liaison between the Adult Schools as well as with community-based organizations (CBO’s) and governmental entities (such as the Oakland Public Library) that are providing adult education services and their home campus. As each of the Peralta Colleges will host a Transitions Liaison, the four Liaisons together will form a community of practice enabling a consistent set of services and student supports across the District. As part of each campus’ Center for Your Educational Success (CYES), this position plays a critical role in the College’s and the District’s efforts to promote equity in student outcomes and close the achievement gap between key sub-populations. The position will collaborate effectively with the District’s Office of Student Success and Equity. While this is a grant-funded position, there is an expectation that it will continue year to year, pending available state funds for adult education. The Transitions Liaison: Serves as the College’s ambassador to the Adult School and Community-based Organizations (CBO’s) and their students. Develops strong working relationships across departments on their home campus as well as with the staff at the Adult Schools and CBO’s Works closely with adult students to foster a smooth transition from one education segment or learning environment to another. Serves as a “process coordinator” on their campus – assisting students in navigating the entire process of understanding their college options, applying, enrolling, matriculating, and being successful in their academic environment. Works successfully across departments to resolve problems and ensure students have a successful experience transition to and through the Peralta Colleges. Track, gather, and analyze student success data to ensure continuous program improvement. Serve on the College’s Student Success and Equity Team with other members of the Centers for Your Educational Success (CYES) Communicate and collaborate effectively with the Peralta District Office of Student Success and Equity. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in one of the social sciences, behavioral sciences, business, public administration or a related field, and of four(4) years of responsible professional experience in adult education, grants administration; or an equivalent combination of training and qualifying experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. 2. Familiarity with the policies, procedures, regulations and laws that pertain to adult education programs in the State of California. 3. Knowledge of resources available to students at the adult school and community college level. 4. Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in working with adult students. 5. Ability to develop action plans demonstrating timelines and deliverables. 6. Experience working with diverse high risk populations such as previously incarcerated individuals, foster youth, undocumented immigrants, non-native English speakers, individuals newly released from the prison system, etc. 7. Knowledge of educational assessment and placement tools. 8. Understanding of case management. 9. Knowledge of different learning styles and strategies for fostering student success given these differences. 10. Understanding of mental health issues and resources available to students 11. Some knowledge in data collection, analysis and report writing/submission. 12. Ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse cultures and language groups and with people who have disabilities. 13. Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in the use of office productivity software (word processing, spreadsheet, database management, email) using personal computers and the Internet. 14. Knowledge of project management principles and practices, including the use of software applications, timelines, and the ability to meet deadlines. 15. Understanding of, sensitivity to and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of Peralta Colleges’ students, faculty, staff and community. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS 1. Master’s Degree in education or a related field 2. Excellent interpersonal skills, including group presentation, writing skills and ability to explain project goals and objectives to a variety of audiences. 3. Experience in working with multicultural students 4. Bi-lingual skills are a plus
