State Academic Senate hosting a CTE Leadership Institute in
Anaheim during the first weekend of May.
The DAS can cover the travel for 2-3 faculty per campus to attend.
They’d need to contact their senate president and express their
intent so the college senate could decide who should attend in case
more than 3 people express interest in attending (doubtful but that’s
the process in case). Their senate president can give them the details
for doing the travel request.

1:20 – 1:45 p.m.
Financial Aid and the Ability to Benefit
David Nguyen
Peralta’s
Financial Aid
Director
A discussion with Peralta’s Financial Aid Director about how students
without a GED might enroll in CTE courses and receive financial aid if
they are in a career pathway program - changes in federal law.
Some of our CTE programs are not Title IV
Only Transcriptable certificates would count
This is really about concurrent enrollment between an HSE or GED
program….
Immigrants who have the math and English but can’t get at their HS
Transcript might be a good target population
Infuse this knowledge into our Adult School work because it’s really
about concurrent enrollment….
And we should find a way to provide guidance to the Counselors…
Dave will take charge of putting the Ability to Benefit Test in place
Too bad the Certificates or Proficiency don’t count
Low unit CA’s might be a good place
Work with Lao Family to see if there is a population who could
benefit here.

BOG Task Force - Implementation
Discussion of how we will create our plan
(Lessons from the SSSP and Equity planning processes)
Are CTE programs using LaunchBoard in their Program Reviews?
We’ll need to do that for Strong Workforce Funds…
All
Committee proposes identifying a Task Force to work over the
summer to begin work on our plans…
Who at each college could be paid to help coordinate these plans at
each of the colleges….(SSSSP and Equity struggled because there was
no one in charge who could go around and do this….)
We could hire contractors (consultants/facilitators) who could help
the campuses think this through.
Ask the State Senate to bring people in over the summer to help
train us….SSSSP, Equity and Strong TF CTE $$ so we can appreciate
the way these things align. It’s about synthesize how SS and
Instruction align….through AEBG in there as well
This Coordinator could work across SS and Instruction – pilot the
model of what the Deans discussed yesterday…use Perkins funds for
this?
All programs are trying to spend their budgets…..
A summer coordinating that will develop a framework for the
development of the CTE $200 plans…so we can plug and play in the
fall. Would ideally be a hired coordinator….present this on FLEX DAY
Reps from each college to serve on the STEERING COMMITTEE:
CTE Instructional and SS administrator(s)
Counselor
CTE faculty (1-2 from each campus)
Staff
DSN
Need at least one designated person to WORK and be committed to
this…stipended?
Volunteers: CTE Committee reps
