People awarded this qualification will have experience supervising a shift, communicating instructions, loading people with disabilities, and assisting on an avalanche response. The Elective Section of this qualification allows people to develop areas of specialisation or breadth depending on their career aspirations. The elective includes standards that cover weather interpretation for the outdoors, avalanche, first aid, working at heights on snowsport towers, snowsport area operations, assessment of learning, specialist driving knowledge and skills. This qualification builds on the National Certificate in Snowsport with strands in Aerial Lift Operation, Road and Carpark Services, and Surface Lift Operation [Ref: 0439] and leads to the National Certificate in Snowsport (Supervision) with strands in Lift Operation, Patrol Leader, Snowsport Equipment, Snowgrooming, Snowmaking, Snowschool, and Ticketing and Guest Services [Ref: 1219]. Changes to structure and content Credit total decreased from 50 to 42 credits. Titles, levels and credits were updated. Standard 18102 moved from the Compulsory to the Elective section. Expiring standards 6400, 6401 and 6402 in the Compulsory were replaced by standards 26551 and 26552, and moved to the Elective. For detailed information see Review Summaries on the NZQA website. This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards – see table below.
