Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to: analyse and
compare primary health care provider services to determine
their effectiveness on the hauora needs of Māori; and consult
with key stakeholders of a primary health care provider to
determine any changes required to maximise the effectiveness
of their services for Māori.

Explanatory notes
1
Definitions of Māori words will be those relevant and in common usage in a hauora
context. However, the local iwi and/or hapū must verify the local dialect.

Definitions
Hauora means the appropriate practices associated with the holistic wellbeing of an
individual as a member of a whānau, hapū, and iwi. For the purpose of this unit
standard, these practices are determined by service providers or entities that operate
within a hauora context.
Hauora context refers to a hauora service provider capacity.
3
Assessment for evidence requirement 1.3 requires a written essay of no less than
3000 words and no more than 4000 words.

Outcome 1
Analyse and compare primary health care provider services to determine their
effectiveness on the hauora needs of Māori.
Range
evidence of services from one Māori primary health care provider and one
mainstream primary health care provider is required.

Services provided are analysed in terms of their quality and effectiveness in
meeting client needs.

The criteria used in determining specific service development for the hauora
needs of Māori are analysed in terms of the needs of whānau, hapū, and iwi.

Māori primary services are compared with non-Māori primary services in terms
of their impact on, and relevance to, client needs.

Evidence requirements
2.1
Key stakeholders are consulted with in terms of determining the availability and
effectiveness of services for meeting the hauora needs of Māori.
2.2
Key stakeholders are consulted with in terms of determining effective services
for Māori in accordance with tikanga and kawa, and the hauora needs of Māori.
2.3
Any changes to the services provided and/or standard of care are determined in
terms of their effectiveness (positive or negative) in meeting determined hauora
needs.

Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA,
before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses
of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
Requirements for consent to assess and an outline of the moderation system that applies
to this standard are outlined in the Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR). The
CMR also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing
to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors
