International Development minor Political Science Department Requirements Overview The International Development minor is intended for students who wish to complement their primary area of study with an interdisciplinary focus on complex social problems associated with international development. The minor is intended to complement and expand a student’s chosen major by focusing on critical development issues from several different academic perspectives. Approved courses emphasize problems of development in poor countries as well as poorer regions of wealthier countries. The interdisciplinary nature of the minor allows students to embrace a global perspective on the processes of change and development; to critically assess internal and external influences on the development process; and to gain a deeper perspective on the interconnectedness of complex problems. For questions about this minor, or to declare, please contact Dr. Eileen Doherty-Sil, dohertye@sas.upenn.edu Requirements 6 courses overall, of which: o at least 3 are PSCI approved classes (see list below) o no more than 3 are non-PSCI approved electives (see list below) Students may petition the Political Science undergraduate chair or the associate director of the undergraduate program to accept a course that is not in the preapproved list. Students may not double count more than 3 courses from their major toward the International Development minor.
