People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate a knowledge of spray guns in the motor body industry; use a suction feed spray gun; and maintain a suction feed spray gun in the motor body industry. It is assumed the policy also meets product manufacturers' specifications, recommendations, and standards. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of spray guns in the motor body industry. Range gravity, suction, pressure. Evidence requirements 1.1 Purpose of each kind of spray gun is identified according to spray gun manufacturer‘s specifications. 1.2 Principle of how each spray gun operates is identified according to spray gun manufacturer’s specifications. Safety precautions required when using spray guns are identified according to the manufacturer‘s specifications and company policy. Outcome 2 Use a suction feed spray gun. Evidence requirements 2.1 Panel to be painted is identified and clean according to manufacturer’s specifications and company policy. 2.2 Material to be sprayed is identified, and the spray gun is set up and adjusted according to spray gun manufacturer‘s specifications. 2.3 Air pressure is selected according to manufacturer’s specifications. 2.4 Spray gun is used according to the spray gun manufacturer‘s specifications and company policy and there are no spraying defects on the panel. Range 2.5 dry spray, runs, banding, uneven coating, heavy orange peel, dirt. Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task. Range personal safety, safety to others, tool and equipment safety. Outcome 3 Maintain a suction feed spray gun in the motor body industry. Evidence requirements 3.1 Purpose of maintaining a spray gun is identified. 3.2 Tools and materials are selected to enable the gun to be cleaned and are used according to the spray gun manufacturer’s specifications. Range brushes, solvents compatible with the paint being used, cloths, compressed air supply, lubricants. 3.3 Spray gun parts are identified according to spray gun manufacturer‘s specifications. 3.4 Spray gun is clean and operates according to spray gun manufacturer’s specifications.
