New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 19165 version 3 Page 2 of 3 2 Definitions The AWAC Code, also referred to as the Code of Animal Welfare, is the Code of Recommendations and Minimum Standards for the Welfare of Animals Transported within New Zealand (Code of Animal Welfare No 15) and subsequent amendments. Livestock refers to any two of – cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, horses, poultry and/or other birds. Organisational procedures mean those company instructions that are formally documented for employees and are available to candidates and assessors. Vet Certificate refers to Fitness of Stock for Transport – Veterinary Declaration. 3 The legal requirements relevant to this unit standard include: Animal Products Act 1999; Animal Welfare Act 1999. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Describe documentation required for the transportation of livestock by road. Performance criteria 1.1 The description identifies and explains types of documentation required for transport of livestock. 1.2 The description includes information required on documentation for the weighing of vehicle carrying livestock. 1.3 The description identifies types of information required for the Vet Certificate. 1.4 The description includes the voluntary requirements of the AWAC Code for animal welfare documentation. 1.5 The description explains driver’s responsibilities in terms of consignment documentation. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
