Purpose

This is an intermediate level qualification for people who already working or intending to work in the marine retail or distribution industry sectors. This qualification will be completed in the workplace or through the combination of the workplace and off job training.

The qualification contains core compulsory and core elective sections, which recognise that the holder has specialist marine equipment and generic sales skills and knowledge relating to customers, products, communication, computer use, communication, merchandising and stock control.

The elective sections allow trainees, employers and providers, the flexibility to tailor training programmes to meet individual skill needs that reflect the diverse roles in the marine retail and distribution sectors of the Marine Industry.

This qualification builds on the National Certificate in Marine Sales and Services (Marine

Retailing) (Level 2) [Ref: 0548].

Replacement Information

This qualification replaced the National Certificate in Marine Sales and Services (Marine

Retail) (Level 4) [Ref: 0549].

Special Notes

People in the workforce may have demonstrated competence in the outcomes specified in individual standards in this qualification. These candidates should seek recognition of their current competence wherever it is relevant to this qualification.

Recognition of current competence must be carried out by accredited providers or registered assessors in accordance with NZQA guidelines.

Changes to content and structure:

Expired unit standards 412 and 11821 were removed.

Expired unit standards 11939 and 11940 were removed and replaced by unit standard 27229.

The qualification credit value has decreased from 108 to 100 credits.

It is not possible for existing registered trainees to complete version 1 owing to expired unit standards. Trainees will therefore be transitioned to version 2 so they will be able to complete this qualification.

The last date for assessments to take place for version 1 of this qualification is

31 December 2015.

This qualification contains standards that have expired and been replaced. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expired standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standard

– see table below.

Version 1 of this qualification replaced the National Certificate in Marine Sales and

Services (Marine Retail) (Level 4) [Ref: 0549], which had never been awarded. There were substantial differences between the two qualifications.
