This unit standard is for people who seek responsibility in
planning, managing and reviewing projects.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: plan
projects, manage project implementation; and review project
effectiveness. It also includes identifying and defining resource
requirements, project costs and timeframes, and the ongoing
monitoring and evaluation of the project.

Explanatory notes
1
Organisation refers to the business entity and can cover a variety of types and forms
of organisation, whether profit or non-profit, in private, public, or voluntary sectors,
including iwi and other special purpose bodies.

Project is a defined series of coordinated tasks with a defined outcome, start and
stop times. It is a non-recurring plan that coordinates a set of limited scope activities.

This unit standard will be assessed on the basis of evidence of demonstrated
performance in the workplace or in simulated work situations designed to draw upon
similar performance to that required in work. In practice, this will call for a variety of
modes of assessment and forms of evidence. Evidence is required to show
consistency of performance across a range of situations and to demonstrate
knowledge, understanding, and skill in the principles and practices directly relating to
the competent performance of outcomes and evidence requirements.

Evidence requirements
1.1
Project plans are complete, and specify the relevant agreed project outcomes
and are in accordance with all organisational policies, procedures, and legal
requirements.
Range
vision, purpose, goals, objectives, criteria, standards.
1.2
Project plans are agreed to be achievable in the agreed time frame, and
contingencies recognise identified constraints to the project.
1.3
Project approval, start, and completion dates, project activities, project
milestones, and other dates are identified and recorded on project plan in the
agreed format.
1.4
Individuals contributing to the project are identified, consulted with, and their
competencies and responsibilities determined, agreed, recorded, and
communicated within the agreed time frame.
1.5
Resource requirements and control processes to complete and control the
project are identified, sourced for availability, and recorded.
Range
control processes include audits, reviews, checks, control systems
and mechanisms.
1.6
Established project teams meet project plan and role requirements.
1.7
Approval for plan is obtained from project sponsor in accordance with
established procedures.
Outcome 2
Manage project implementation.

Evidence requirements
2.1
Projects are completed on time, within budget, work, and resource allocation,
and to the required quality and satisfaction of the customer and the
organisation.
2.2
Project is reviewed at determined intervals against plan, and contingency
actions are implemented to realign plan when current project status differs from
project plan.
2.3
The status of the project is current, with parties affected by the implementation
or outcomes of the project being kept informed of progress at appropriate
intervals.
2.4
Project team members are authorised, and have required resources to
complete project plan.

Documentation relating to directing the project is complete, concise, and in the
required format and location.
Outcome 3
Review project effectiveness.

Evidence requirements
3.1
Actual project outcomes are evaluated, reviewed for achievement, and
compared against current work plan, objectives, and resources, with variances
against plan being identified.
3.2
Identified variances against plan are recorded, and reasons for discrepancy are
found and analysed.
3.3
Identified strengths and weaknesses in the project or project plan and
suggestions for their improvement are disseminated to the appropriate
individuals.
3.4
Project report and review records are complete, concise, and in the required
format and location.
This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place by
the last date for assessment set out below.

Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
Requirements for consent to assess and an outline of the moderation system that applies
to this standard are outlined in the Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR). The
CMR also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing
to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors
and assessors, and special resource requirements.
