People credited with this unit standard are able to describe
business-related services offered by financial institutions and
select business-related services from financial institutions for a
New Zealand entity.
This unit standard is for people who are not financial specialists
or experts but who need financial knowledge and skills in their
workplace.

Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes but is not limited to – Industrial and
Provident Societies Act 1908.

Definitions
Financial institutions include retail banks and other institutions providing businessrelated financial services.
A New Zealand entity must operate within New Zealand, and may include but is not
limited to – an entire organisation; a part of an organisation such as a cost-centre,
department, or branch; a small-to-medium enterprise (SME); a community group
such as a sports club.

Outcome 1
Describe business-related services offered by financial institutions.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Services offered by financial institutions are described in terms of their potential
relevance to New Zealand entities.
Range
services – retail banking, advice, lending, investment,
international, securities, insurance;
financial institutions – a specific retail bank and three other specific
institutions.

Please note
Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA,
before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses
of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.

to this standard are outlined in the CMR. The CMR also includes useful information about
