Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Demonstrate knowledge of the operation of temporary electric fences for horses.

Performance criteria
1.1
Description identifies electric fence components and their purpose.
1.2
Description identifies benefits for the use of electric fences.
Range
includes but is not limited to – safe, easy to erect, highly visible,
economical, flexible use.
1.3
Description outlines capacity requirements of electric fence units to achieve
maximum performance.
1.4
Description identifies earthing system requirements according to soil type.
1.5
Description outlines circuitry and conductivity requirements for an electric fence
system.
Range
includes but is not limited to – connections, joins, gates,
conductive tape, insulation.
Element 2
Erect, test, dismantle, transport, and store temporary electric fences for horses.
Range
reel post, portable standards, poly tape, insulators, energiser, digital voltmeter
or other accepted testers.
Performance criteria
2.1
Fences are erected with consideration given to the health, safety, and welfare of
people and animals.
2.2
Fences are erected to land contours, supervisor's instructions, and
manufacturer's specifications.
2.3
Fences are erected, dismantled, transported, and stored without damage or
undue risk of damage to materials.
2.4
Fences are energised to at least 3000 volts without shorting and tested using a
digital voltmeter or other accepted testers.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
