Definitions
Microchip transponder or transponder refers to a microchip passive transponder
compliant with NZS/ISO 11784 and NZS/ISO 11785.
Organisational requirements refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures
which are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Describe territorial authority and dog owner responsibilities, equipment and documentation
requirements, and procedures for implanting microchip transponders.
Performance criteria
1.1
Territorial authority and dog owner responsibilities for implanting transponders
are described in accordance with sections 36A and 69A of the Dog Control Act
1996.
Range
1.2
Equipment and documentation requirements related to implanting transponders
in dogs are described in accordance with section 4 of the Dog Control
(Microchip Transponder) Regulations 2005 and organisational requirements.
Range
1.3
dogs – newly or first time registered, impounded unregistered,
impounded second time, dangerous and menacing.
documentation – certification, notifications to dog owners pursuant
to section 36A of the Dog Control Act 1996.
Procedures for implanting transponders in dogs are described in accordance
with sections 5, 6, and 7 of the Dog Control (Microchip Transponder)
Regulations 2005 and organisational requirements.
Element 2
Check equipment, certification documentation and dogs, and implant microchip
transponders.
Range
a limited variety of dogs in terms of breed, size, and temperament; includes at
least one menacing or dangerous dog scenario (actual or simulated).
Performance criteria
2.1
Equipment and certification documentation are checked and made ready in
accordance with the Dog Control (Microchip Transponder) Regulations 2005
and organisational requirements.
2.2
Dogs to be implanted are checked for any existing implantation in accordance
with section 6 of the Dog Control (Microchip Transponder) Regulations 2005.

2.3
Handling and implantation are carried out in accordance with sections 5 and 7
of the Dog Control (Microchip Transponder) Regulations 2005 and
organisational requirements.
2.4
Documentation requirements for implantation activity are completed in
accordance with organisational requirements.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
