Definitions
Paving can include concrete paving, exposed aggregate paving, pavers, and asphalt,
for the purpose of this unit standard.
Plant is used as in the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 to mean
appliances, equipment, fittings, furniture, implements, machines, machinery, tools,
vehicles, plus parts, controls, and anything connected.
Site documents refer to any official documentation for the site, and may include
consents, working drawings, plans and specifications, reports, producer statements,
any relevant industry standards, or any other documentation critical to the
construction process.

Work site practice refers to the documented procedures specific to a work site which
set out the standard and required practices of that work site.

For all on site unit standards the practical assessment evidence must be provided in
the context of commercial business construction operations, in the workplace, under
normal workplace conditions.

Credit for this unit standard indicates compliance with industry practice. Industry
practice refers to the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills that reflect the
productivity, uniformity, finish quality and material economies currently accepted
within industry.

Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Attend to and check the construction of concrete masonry structures on site.
Performance criteria
1.1
Footing levels and the positions of reinforcing starters are confirmed as being in
accordance with site documents.
1.2
Access equipment is arranged in accordance with employer’s safety
procedures.
1.3
Falsework for supporting lintels is confirmed as being in accordance with site
documents.
1.4
Pre-grout check is completed in accordance with site documents.
Range
reinforcing tied, washout ports cleaned, Building Consent Authority
approval obtained, washout ports closed off.
1.5
Control joints are confirmed as being in accordance with site documents.
1.6
Grout filling is confirmed as placed and compacted in accordance with site
documents.
1.7
Construction is confirmed as being in accordance with site documents.
Range
line, level, plumb, specified tolerances, height, position of fixings
and attachments.

Element 2

Performance criteria
2.1
Base course is confirmed as being placed and compacted, and levels are
confirmed as in accordance with site documents.
2.2
Edge restraints are confirmed as constructed in accordance with site
documents.
2.3
Paving is confirmed as constructed in accordance with site documents.
Element 3
Complete work operations on site.
Performance criteria
3.1
All operations are safely completed; workplace, tools, plant and equipment are
cleaned; and tools, plant and equipment are stored in accordance with work site
practice.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
