Types of cultivation equipment may include - disc, tine, power take-off cultivator; evidence of at least one is required. 3 Personal protective equipment, appropriate to job requirements, is to be selected and used in accordance with company requirements and manufacturer’s instructions. Job instructions are those given to the operator prior to undertaking a job. They may include site safety instructions, contract specifications, and written memos. Manufacturer’s instructions may include specifications, installation, handling, use, and maintenance instructions and safety data sheets. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Clarify job instructions. Evidence requirements 1.1 Job instructions are clarified in accordance with company requirements. Outcome 2 Select and prepare cultivation equipment and machinery. Evidence requirements 2.1 Equipment and machinery chosen are appropriate for the work to be carried out. 2.2 Equipment and machinery are checked and are fit for purpose; and, if required, corrective action is taken in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and company requirements. Outcome 3 Carry out field preparation. Evidence requirements 3.1 Cultivation hazards are identified and controlled in accordance with company requirements. 3.2 Planned cultivation work pattern takes account of contours, of previous and subsequent cultivation, field compaction, and required finish, and minimises empty running. 3.3 Ground conditions are checked for suitability for cultivation in relation to soil type, soil structure, soil depth, crop residues, stubble, moisture content, and weather forecast. 3.4 Equipment and machinery adjustments made are appropriate for the work to be carried out and within the capabilities of the equipment in use. Evidence requirements 4.1 Soil is cultivated to the required depth in accordance with client requirements. 4.2 Soil is cultivated in accordance with predetermined work pattern in accordance with client requirements. 4.3 Soil is cultivated leaving a smooth surface, uniform tilth suitable for crop to be sown, minimal overlap, and no uncultivated areas. 4.4 Equipment and machinery are monitored during use, and required adjustments are made in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and requirements of the job. Outcome 5 Carry out post-operational procedures. Evidence requirements 5.1 Equipment and machinery are shut down and stored in accordance with company requirements. 5.2 Equipment is cleaned and lubricated, and any damage or faults are repaired, replaced or reported in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and company requirements. 5.3 Documentation for the operation is completed in accordance with company and client requirements, and is stored in accordance with company requirements.
