People credited with this unit standard are able to: interpret
information on an infrastructure works site; provide information
relating to tasks on an infrastructure works site; communicate
with site personnel on an infrastructure works site; and
communicate with the public regarding infrastructure works site
activities.

Explanatory notes
1
Assessment against this unit standard must take place in a workplace environment.
Assessment parameters will be dependent on company and site specific equipment,
procedures, and practices. Practices must reflect industry best practice and comply
with legislative requirements.

Definitions
Company requirements include the policy, procedures, and methodologies of the
company. They include legislative and regulatory requirements which may apply
across the company or to a specific site. Requirements are documented in the
company’s health and safety plans, traffic management plans, contract work
programmes, quality assurance programmes, policies, and procedural documents.
Job instructions are those given to the operator prior to undertaking a job. They may
include site safety instructions, contract drawings, and written memos.
Pegs and stakes refer to markings for survey set-out, boundary, lift, and batter.

Outcome 1
Interpret information on an infrastructure works site.

1.1
Safety signage is identified and its meaning is interpreted in accordance with
the site safety plan.

2.1
Information relating to on-site tasks is provided orally in a complete and concise
manner and is clear to the target audience.

weather conditions.
Information relating to on-site tasks is provided in written form in accordance
with company requirements.

includes but is not limited to – safety, work hours, machine hours,
maintenance, materials.

an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can
