Classification Recreation and Sport > Recreation and Sport - Management Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Sport organisations include clubs, and local, regional, and national sport organisations. 2 Participation in sport may be as spectator, competitor, manager, coach, parent, supporter, official or administrator. 3 Costs of participation in sport include: social costs - opportunity costs of time spent training and competing, impact of physical injuries, drug and alcohol abuse, aggression and violence, wear and tear on equipment and facilities; economic costs - lost income, financial outlay, health expenditure on injury and rehabilitation, investment in staff, programmes, equipment and facilities. 4 Benefits of participation in sport include: social benefits - social harmony, role models, leadership, social mobility, personal growth and development, increased self-esteem, values, family, community and national unity, socialisation, crime prevention and rehabilitation, control of aggressive and violent behaviour; economic benefits - employment, tourism, health savings, marketing, volunteerism, retail sales, travel and accommodation sales, welfare savings, facility development. 5 Documentation complies with the requirements of the specified sport organisation. 6 Definitions A mission statement is considered to be a brief, clear statement of the purpose and/or business of an organisation. A strategic plan is considered to be a long term plan of five years or more. A management plan is considered to be a medium term plan of two years or more. Action plans are considered to be short term plans for the implementation of specific projects. Evidence requirements 1.1 The role and function of sport within New Zealand society are explained within the context of the sport, fitness, and recreation industry. 1.2 Costs and benefits of participating in the specified sport are identified and documented at levels that are consistent with the level of the sport organisation. Range 1.3 The contribution made by the specified sport to New Zealand society is identified and documented at the level of the specified organisation. Range 1.4 levels include – club, local, regional, and national levels. levels include – team, club, local, regional and national levels. A philosophy of sport is developed and documented which recognises the role and function of sport within New Zealand society, identifies costs and benefits of participation and contribution to New Zealand society of the sport, and identifies the purpose and values of the organisation. Evidence requirements 2.1 The mission statement of the organisation is identified and documented. 2.2 Goals and objectives, developed and documented in consultation with the executive of the sport organisation, are consistent with the identified mission statement. 2.3 The plan documents implementation strategies and strategic performance targets. 2.4 Processes are developed and documented for review and evaluation of the strategic plan and achievement of strategic performance. Evidence requirements 3.1 Management requirements are identified and documented for the sport organisation. requirements include – finance, personnel, resources. Range 3.2 Resource requirements are identified and documented for specific activity and programme areas. requirements include – coaching, facilities, team management, event management, project management. Range 3.3 The management plan documents action plans and management performance targets. 3.4 Processes are developed and documented for review and evaluation of the management plan and achievement of management performance targets.
