materials to manufacture the item (time, materials, temperature, and application
rates).
Product specification refers to the documented requirements of the manufactured
item.
Worksite procedures refer to the documented procedures for the machine and
worksite.

All worksite procedures must meet recognised codes of practice such as the Code of
Practice for Health and Safety in the Manufacture of Composites Based on Synthetic
Resins (Fibreglass), 1998. This code, and other relevant codes of practice, are
available from the Composites Association of New Zealand, PO Box 75 345,
Manurewa, Manukau 2243, or at
http://www.hazsubstancesinquiry.osh.govt.nz/order/catalogue/composites.shtml.
They include obligations required under current legislation. All worksite procedures
must also meet documented worksite safety procedures (where these exceed the
code) for personal, product and worksite safety.

The deposited gel coat produced for this unit standard must include external and
internal angles, and concave and convex surfaces.

Element 1
Carry out specified safety precautions while depositing a gel coat by hand.
Performance criteria
1.1
Materials are handled according to safety data sheet recommendations and the
code of practice.
1.2
Safety equipment is used according to worksite procedures.
1.3
Safety precautions are carried out according to the equipment manufacturer's
recommendations.

Prepare to deposit a gel coat by hand.
Performance criteria
2.1
Equipment is confirmed as being in working condition.
2.2
Equipment matches the requirements of the product and process specifications.
2.3
Safety equipment is complete, in working order, matches the requirements of
the task, and is used in accordance with the code of practice.
2.4
Materials match the requirements of the product specification.
2.5
Materials are used in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.

Element 3
Deposit gel coat.
Performance criteria
3.1
Process specifications are met in accordance with worksite procedures.
3.2
Materials are used in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and stored
according to worksite procedures.
3.3
Remedial action ensures that product meets product specification.
3.4
Worksite is left ready for the next operation in accordance with worksite
procedures.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
