Next review December 2020 Approval date November 2015 Strategic purpose statement The purpose of this qualification is to provide the mining industry with mine surveyors who are able to undertake and implement all aspects of preparing for and completing surveys and plans at a mine site. Learners will benefit by having a qualification which recognises mine survey skills and knowledge, will enable improved job performance and provide a credential to enhance employment opportunities. The mining industry will benefit by having credentialed mine surveyors. This qualification is targeted at qualified surveyors. Graduates will be capable of working in an autonomous capacity. Graduate profile Outcome Statement Education pathway Graduates of this qualification will be able to: Apply in-depth technical knowledge of specialist survey techniques and the mining workplace to work as a mine surveyor. Apply in-depth technical knowledge of mining methods and related geology to work as a mine surveyor. Apply regulatory requirements, lead work teams, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders as necessary to complete surveys and submit plans at a mine site. This qualification follows on from the New Zealand Diploma in Surveying (Level 6) [Ref: 2957]. The qualification has no further direct educational pathways in New Zealand in relation to mine surveying. Employment pathway Qualification Reference 3166 © New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2015 Graduates are able to work as mine surveyors. Graduates may be appointed to the statutory role of Mine Surveyor provided they also hold a Certificate of Competence as required by the Health and Safety in Employment (Mining 1 Operations and Quarrying Operations) Regulations 2013. A graduate of this qualification, provided their programme of study or training programme contained the unit standards required, could apply for a Certificate of Competence relevant to their work as a mine surveyor. Additional statutory requirements must be met before a Certificate of Competence can be issued. Qualification specifications Qualification award This qualification is awarded by the education organisation where the learner achieved the programme of study or industry training leading to the qualification. Evidence requirements for assuring consistency Evidence will include the following: Employer surveys to determine if graduates of the qualification meet the graduate profile outcomes A range of workplace evidence demonstrating that graduates meet the graduate profile outcomes. Evidence may include: Minimum standard of achievement and standards for grade endorsements Any other relevant evidence as appropriate. Achieved General conditions for the programme leading to the qualification General conditions for programme The prerequisite for entry in to programmes leading to the award of this qualification is the New Zealand Diploma of Surveying [Ref: 2957], or a degree in surveying, conferred by a New Zealand tertiary institution, or a qualification in surveying from another institution deemed equivalent by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority to a four-year Bachelor’s degree in surveying or a New Zealand Diploma of Surveying. High levels of oral, written and inter-personal communications and mathematical skills are required to complete this qualification. Programme content must reflect current legislation, regulations and industry standards. Programmes must include the following unit standards: 7142; 29087 45 credits Transition information Replacement information This qualification replaced the optional strand in Mine Surveying, of the National Diploma in Surveying [Ref: 0453]. The last date for entry into programmes leading to the optional strand in Mine Surveying of the replaced qualification is 31 December 2016. The last date for completion of the optional strand of that qualification is 31 December 2019, at which time it will be designated as discontinued. People currently working towards the optional strand of replaced qualification must complete its requirements, or transfer to a programme of study or training leading to this qualification, by 31 December 2019. It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements.
