Strategic purpose statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the aeronautical
engineering industry with graduates who carry out the
maintenance planning function and recognises the knowledge
and skills in keeping with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)
regulatory requirements for this role.
This qualification is intended for learners who are experienced
aeronautical engineers, and who want to broaden their skills to
include maintenance planning.
The aeronautical engineering sector of the aviation industry will
benefit through employment of staff knowledgeable and capable
of planning the maintenance process of aircraft.
Graduates will be equipped with a comprehensive set of skills
relating to the administration and management of maintenance
planning for an aviation engineering organisation.

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

forecast the maintenance requirements for an aircraft fleet
and major aircraft components

plan and schedule aircraft maintenance activities to ensure
the accomplishment of the scheduled maintenance
requirements

define the scope and requirements for planned maintenance
of aircraft and document maintenance process

monitor and control an aircraft maintenance activity to
ensure the accomplishment of the scheduled maintenance
requirements, ensuring all specified policies, practices and
procedures are complied with
This qualification can provide a pathway from the various New

Zealand certificates and diplomas in Aeronautical Engineering
and can provide a pathway to other training opportunities, both
off job and on job, in Aeronautical Engineering.
Career progression beyond these specialist maintenance roles is
most likely to be in management, for which a range of
management qualifications and/or training opportunities are
available.

Graduates will have the skills and knowledge to be a
maintenance planner in aeronautical engineering organisations

which has an approved programme of study or industry training
leading to the qualification.

Replacement information
This qualification replaced the National Diploma in Aeronautical
Engineering (Maintenance Planning) (Level 5) [Ref: 1258]
Trainees currently enrolled in programmes leading to the replaced qualification may either complete the
requirements by 31 December 2020 or transfer to the replacement qualification.
The last date for entry into programmes leading to the replaced qualification is 31 December 2018. The
last date for assessment of the replaced qualification is 31 December 2020, at which time it will be
designated as discontinued.
It is the intention of ServiceIQ that no existing trainee should be disadvantaged by these transition
