Strategic purpose statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the aeronautical
engineering industry with graduates who have gained the skills in
servicing aircraft, either fixed wing or helicopters, on a flight line
or ramp.
This qualification is intended for learners who are planning to
embark on a career in the aviation industry as an aeronautical
engineer servicing aircraft.
The aeronautical engineering sector of the aviation industry will
benefit through recruitment of staff capable of completing
servicing of aircraft on a flight line or ramp
Graduates will be equipped with a comprehensive base of skills
and experience that will prepare them for further employment in
Aeronautical Engineering.

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

interpret, evaluate, and apply information from aeronautical
publications, including aircraft maintenance documentation,
to complete maintenance tasks

apply safe work practices in an aeronautical engineering
workplace, whilst exhibiting professional and ethical conduct
to promote the safe maintenance of airworthiness standards
as expected of a qualified Aeronautical Engineering
tradesperson
-
service aircraft on a flight line or ramp, applying skills to carry
out tasks such as replenishments, refuelling, ground
handling, and pre- and post-flight checks on fixed wing
aircraft or helicopters
The qualification is designed as a stand-alone qualification. While
this qualification does not specifically lead to other qualifications,
it can provide a pathway to other training opportunities, both off

job and on job, in Aeronautical Engineering for which a number
of qualifications and/or training opportunities are available,
depending on the direction of their intended career pathway.

New Zealand Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering
(Specialist Support) (Level 4) with strands in General
Aviation; Aeronautical Composites; Aeronautical
Electroplating; Aeronautical Machining; Aeronautical Non
Destructive Testing; Aircraft Furnishings and Equipment;
Aircraft Mechanical; Aircraft Painting; Aircraft Powerplant;
Aircraft Structures; Armament; Avionics; and Rotorcraft [Ref:
2900]
Graduates will have the skills and knowledge to work as a basic
unlicensed aeronautical engineer, under supervision.
Building on the skills acquired in this qualification, holders may
progress to become a licenced aircraft maintenance engineer.

which has an approved programme of study or industry training
leading to the qualification.

Evidence associated with the achievement of qualification
outcomes will include the following:

graduates meet the graduate profile outcomes.

Transition information
Replacement information
This qualification replaced the National Certificate in Aircraft
Servicing [Ref: 0171]
Trainees currently enrolled in programmes leading to the replaced qualification may either complete the
requirements by 31 December 2020 or transfer to the replacement qualification.
The last date for entry into programmes leading to the replaced qualification is 31 December 2018.
The last date for assessment of the replaced qualification is 31 December 2020, at which time it will be
designated as discontinued.
It is the intention of ServiceIQ that no existing trainee should be disadvantaged by these transition
